“The Great Work” refers to the essential challenge of our time — turning the planet and humanity from our current collision course with ecological and mass-homicidal destruction. Renowned eco-philosopher and systems theorist Joanna Macy has called it “The Great Turning”, and frames it nicely as a shift from an Industrial Growth Dominator Society to a Life Sustaining Civilization. Among Indigenous peoples, we have our own ways of describing the shift. In particular, the Prophecy of the Eagle and the Condor from several peoples in South America speaks to many. Others call it "The Great Work.
