Sponsored by Health Forum and the American Hospital Association, the Summit 2001 offered "knowledge and ideas to help you meet current challenges and opportunities head-on."
The Summit traditionally has been the place to get visionary ideas, and the 2001 Summit was no exception. The Leader's Edge presented strategies and action plans to build stronger organizations -- ones where patient care reigns and where health and healing are at the forefront.
Summit 2001 was designed to be a gathering of the best minds in health care -- the very individuals who are shaping the future of the industry. The Health Forum Summit is designed for senior executives leading the strategic thinking in an organization, as well as those who are being groomed to lead. Such gatherings are essential for decision-makers who want an understanding of health care in the 21st century." (Source: Health Forum web site)

Special Workshop led by Lawrence Ellis:
Diversity The Challenge for Healthcare Leaders and Change Agents
In this highly interactive workshop we created a "safe space" for participants to learn and to share perceptions, experiences, and information about "diversity" (pluralism, multiculturalism, equity, etc.).
We invited and challenged ourselves to undertake specific actions that support making healthcare (from our organizations to the communities we serve) as diverse and equitable as possible. Specifically, we:
Examined frameworks for understanding the concept of diversity in its broadest and deepest connotations;
Created a "safe space" to share information and experiences about diversity, exploring the ways in which these issues impact us, our workplaces, and our communities;
Reviewed some of the promises, and some of the potential pitfalls, of diversity change efforts;
Generated or deepened (a) insights and (b) practical tools for transforming ourselves, our workplaces, our communities, and our society;
Committed to specific actions in support of these individual and collective transformations.
