We deeply believe in and strive for congruence between our beliefs and our actions. In fact, this intention informed our journeys into our respective areas of expertise, and helps us decide which organizations, communities and movements we will support. We also stay true to our beliefs through continuous research of and involvement in issues and ideas that are important to us.

Below are descriptions of and links to organizations that we tap for information and inspiration as we live and work. This list of links is a work-in-progress we'll be adding additional resources and categories to ensure a balanced perspective that reflects the complexity of of the realities inherent in organizational change and transformation.

Corporate Accountability

Business Ethics publishes an annual report entitled, "The 100 Best Corporate Citizens." The report endeavors to recognize those companies in which leaders emphasize the importance of good corporate citizenship. Topping the 2001 list was Proctor and Gamble, Hewlett-Packard, Fannie Mae and Motorola, for progress made in a variety of stakeholder-related issues.

Business for Social Responsibility is a global resource for companies seeking to sustain their commercial success in ways that demonstrate respect for ethical values, people, communities and the environment. Through socially responsible business policies and practices, companies create value for investors, customers, employees, local communities and other stakeholders. BSR assists its members in creating that value by providing expert help as companies address the full range of corporate responsibility issues.

Corporate Watch counters corporate-led globalization through education and activism. Corporate Watch works to foster democratic control over corporations by building grassroots globalization — a diverse movement for human rights, labor rights and environmental justice.

Council on Economic Priorities is a public service research organization dedicated to the accurate and impartial analysis of the social and environmental records of corporations. This organization is committed to making information on corporate social responsibility available to millions of consumers, investors, policy makers and businesses, believing that greater access to information enables investors and consumers to make more informed choices.

Corporate Accountability Project reports that "Of the world's 100 largest economies, 51 are now global corporations, rather than countries." Information includes Corporate Dirt Archives / Researching Corporations, Corporate Power Information / Anti-Corporate Email lists, Corporate Welfare Information Center, and 180: The Movement for Democracy and Education (sponsors of the Democracy Teach-Ins).

Focus on the Corporation, which includes "The Hot 100: Ranking the worst corporate criminals of the 1990s" by Russell Mokhiber and Robert Weissman.

Sweatshop Watch is a coalition of labor, community, civil rights, immigrant rights, women's, religious and student organizations, and individuals committed to eliminating sweatshop conditions in the global garment industry.

Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition is a diverse grassroots coalition that for almost 20 years has engaged in research, advocacy, and organizing associated with environmental and human health problems caused by the rapid growth of the high-tech electronics industry.

The Multinational Monitor, by Russell Mokhiber and Robert Weissman, tracks corporate activity, especially in the Third World, focusing on the export of hazardous substances, worker health and safety, labor union issues, and the environment.

Money and Politics

Common Cause is a nonprofit, nonpartisan citizen's lobbying organization promoting open, honest and accountable government. Supported by the dues and contributions of over 250,000 members in every state across the nation, Common Cause represents the unified voice of the people against corruption in government and big money special interests.

The Center for Responsive Politics is a non-partisan, non-profit research group that tracks money in politics, and its effect on elections and public policy. The Center’s work is aimed at creating a more educated voter, an involved citizenry, and a more responsive government.

The Center for Public Integrity's mission is to provide the American public with the findings of its investigations and analyses of public service, government accountability, and ethics-related issues via books, reports and newsletters.

Public Campaign is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to sweeping reform that aims to dramatically reduce the role of special interest money in America's elections and the influence of big contributors in American politics.

Economic Justice Education, Activism and Movement-Building

Responsible Wealth is a national network of businesspeople, investors and affluent Americans who are concerned about deepening economic inequality and are working for widespread prosperity.

United for a Fair Economy publicizes issues of economic injustice, income disparity, the racial underpinnings of the gap between rich and poor, and the chasm between the salaries of corporate CEOs and those of working Americans.

Environmental & Economic Justice and Sustainability

Collective Heritage Institute seeks to cultivate both a material and a spiritual basis for their ongoing conservation through practical and visionary solutions. CHI projects include the Bioneers Conference, Voices of the Bioneers, The Bioneers Fund, and the Restorative Development Initiative.

Global Exchange is a human rights organization dedicated to promoting environmental, political and social justice around the world.

The Natural Step is an international organization that uses a science-based, systems framework to help organizations and communities understand and take the next step towards sustainability. The Natural Step Framework is a guide to thinking and acting in harmony with the Earth's cyclical processes. It provides a practical set of design criteria that can be used to direct social, environmental, and economic actions.

The Worldwatch Institute is dedicated to fostering the evolution of an environmentally sustainable society — one in which human needs are met in ways that do not threaten the health of the natural environment or the prospects of future generations.
